The Mediterranean Experts on Climate and Environmental Change (MedECC) has launched a call for experts to participate in the external scientific review of the Second Mediterranean Assessment Report (MAR2).

MedECC is an open and independent international network of scientists established in 2015 to assess the current state of scientific knowledge on climate and environmental change in the Mediterranean region, including associated environmental and socio-economic risks. Through its work, MedECC contributes to strengthening the science–policy interface and supports evidence-based decision-making across the Mediterranean.

Similar to the First Mediterranean Assessment Report (MAR1), MAR2 will provide an updated synthesis of scientific knowledge on climate and environmental change in the Mediterranean region, identify key uncertainties, and highlight remaining knowledge gaps. The report will build on a rigorous assessment of peer-reviewed scientific literature and will undergo a comprehensive iterative review process.

Researchers and experts from scientific, technical, and socio-economic disciplines are invited to apply as external reviewers. The call is open to PhD holders and other experts with demonstrated expertise relevant to the thematic areas covered by the report. While the report will comprise approximately 500 pages, reviewers will have the possibility to focus on chapters most closely aligned with their expertise. All contributing reviewers will be formally acknowledged in the final publication.

The external review process is expected to open in July 2026 and will run for approximately eight weeks.

The registration deadline to apply as reviewer is 15 July 2026.
