Summer school on sustainable blue economy

The National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics – OGS is still collecting applications for the 2026 edition of the Summer School in Sustainable Blue Economy, organised within the framework of the Blue Skills initiative. The programme is part of OGS’s long‑standing commitment to strengthening capacities in the marine and maritime sectors, an effort financially supported by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and recognised by major regional initiatives such as the Western Mediterranean Forum (5+5 Dialogue).

About the 2026 Edition

This year’s Summer School focuses on “Building Capacities for an Innovative and Resilient Sustainable Blue Economy”, with particular attention to the Euro‑Mediterranean region and the Adriatic. The programme offers a multidisciplinary approach, combining theoretical perspectives, practical applications, and insights into technological trends linked to emerging blue economy fields.

A distinctive feature of the 2026 edition is the inclusion of two specialised training tracks:

  • Offshore Wind Farms (OWFs)
  • Marine Protected Areas (MPAs)

These complementary modules are designed to equip participants with the skills needed to operate successfully in innovative and expanding sectors of the blue economy, contributing to a well‑prepared workforce and supporting cross‑border career opportunities.

Deadline for Submissions: March 6th at 11:59 PM (CET)

Background on Blue Skills

The Summer School forms part of the wider Blue Skills programme, which has been active since 2014 and has received significant regional and international recognition, including the Union for the Mediterranean label (2019) and the WestMED Best Project Award (2021). It aims to build a platform of knowledge and training opportunities that strengthen employability, mobility, and socio‑economic impact throughout the Mediterranean.
