On 25 November 2026, the AU-EU-Med Innovation Fair on Food and Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture (FNSSA) will take place at CIHEAM Bari, Italy, and online. Organised by the African Union, the European Union and the Union for the Mediterranean in partnership with CIHEAM Bari, the Fair forms part of the Mediterranean Innovation Agrifood Week (MIAW), taking place from 23 to 27 November 2026.
Under the theme “Turning Results into Market Successes”, the event will explore how research and innovation outcomes in food and nutrition security and sustainable agriculture can be transformed into market-ready solutions. Bringing together researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs, start-ups, investors, policymakers and business support organisations from Africa, Europe and the Mediterranean, the Fair aims to accelerate the uptake, deployment and scale-up of innovative solutions emerging from collaborative research and innovation activities.
The event is particularly relevant for the Euro-Mediterranean Hub for Research and Innovation community, as it provides a unique platform to connect with key stakeholders across the Africa-Europe-Mediterranean research and innovation ecosystem, showcase project results, identify new collaboration opportunities and engage with actors involved in the valorisation and commercialisation of research outcomes.
Participants will have the opportunity to attend high-level policy sessions, innovation pitches, networking activities and dedicated matchmaking events, while connecting directly with investors, financial institutions, accelerators and business support organisations. The Fair is designed to help innovators, researchers, start-ups and SMEs access new partnerships, strengthen their networks and explore opportunities for investment and scale-up.
From a policy perspective, the Fair contributes to the implementation of major regional research and innovation initiatives, including the AU-EU Innovation Agenda (2023–2033), the AU-EU Partnership on Food and Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture, the Union for the Mediterranean Research and Innovation Roadmaps and the Pact for the Mediterranean. Taking place shortly after the second AU-EU Ministerial Meeting on Research and Innovation, the event will provide an important forum for demonstrating how research and innovation can support sustainable food systems, resilient value chains and economic development across Africa, Europe and the Mediterranean.
