Horizon Europe work programme 2025: Research and Innovation Mediterranean Initiative II

The European Union has published the Mediterranean Initiative II as part of its Horizon Europe Work Programme 2025, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable development and innovation across the Southern Mediterranean region.

With an allocation of approximately €165 million, the initiative supports research and innovation in key shared regional priorities—health, climate change, and renewable energy.

Building on the success of the first Mediterranean Initiative launched in 2023, this second phase continues the EU’s strategic approach to co-creation and co-ownership with Mediterranean partner countries. The new initiative addresses pressing socio-economic issues while fostering regional collaboration and high-quality job creation.

The programme is complemented by parallel efforts including the Euro-Med HUB for R&I, the Working Groups under the UfM Platform, PRIMA partnership, the Blue Mission MED, and the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership, all aligned with the Union for the Mediterranean’s R&I priorities.
