Published on February 7, 2025

On February 6, 2025, the European Commission hosted the third EU–Tunisia Cooperation Committee Meeting, marking a significant step in bolstering research and innovation ties between the European Union and Tunisia. The discussions centered on enhancing collaboration through various EU initiatives, including the European Innovation Council, European Research Council, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, and the Joint Research Centre.

Tunisia’s active participation in EU research programs has yielded impressive results. During Horizon 2020, Tunisia engaged in 97 projects across 75 grants, securing €13.2 million. This positive trajectory continues under Horizon Europe, with 70 participations in 52 grants, amounting to €13 million to date—a figure expected to rise as additional grants are finalized.

The meeting also highlighted the alignment of EU-Tunisia cooperation with broader regional initiatives such as the Union for the Mediterranean, PRIMA, BlueMed, and collaborative efforts with Africa. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to leveraging research and innovation as catalysts for sustainable growth and solutions to global challenges.
